Life Event Definitions

Definitions of Life Events

• Overage Dependent
  • Use to unenroll a covered dependent who is no longer eligible due to age, typically 26 years old.
• Other Coverage Obtained
  • Use to unenroll yourself, your spouse, or your dependents if other coverage has been obtained (e.g. your spouse has enrolled in coverage through their employer).
• Marriage
  • Use to enroll a new spouse and/or eligible dependents; or, unenroll yourself and/or dependents if you are enrolling in your new spouse’s plan.
• Loss of Existing Coverage
  • Use to enroll in coverage if you, your spouse, or eligible dependents have recently lost other coverage.
• Domestic Partnership
  • Use to enroll a new domestic partner and eligible dependents
• Divorce
  • Use to unenroll a recently divorced spouse, and, as applicable, enroll eligible dependents (e.g. dependents no longer covered by an ex-spouse’s plan).
• Dissolution of Domestic Partnership
  • Use to unenroll a recently dissolved domestic partnership and their dependents; and, as applicable, enroll newly eligible dependents (e.g. dependents no longer covered by an ex-domestic partner’s plan).
• Dependent Disability
  • Use to enroll or unenroll an eligible dependent due to disability.
• Dependent Death
  • Use to unenroll a recently deceased spouse or dependent; or, enroll eligible dependents who were previously covered by a recently deceased spouse.
• Birth
  • Use to enroll yourself, your spouse, or newly eligible dependents due to a recent birth.
• Beneficiary Change
  • Use to update your beneficiary assignments on your group and/or voluntary life insurance plans.
• Adoption
  • Use to enroll yourself, your spouse, or newly eligible dependents due to a recent adoption.
